Dog Teeth Health PSA

| Published by |

This week is a PSA- Public Service Announcement. Yes, I’m just not another pretty face-I am smart too! So what would I, little Patches, The White Boxer, want to talk about? Hold on to your seats…

It is dog teeth health!

Just look at me!

I’m sure you wonder why I want to talk about this subject? Well, I’m not sure if you remember but in one of my earlier blogs I spoke about how I had to go to the veterinarian’s office right before I started on my trip across the country to my new home in Pennsylvania. At that visit I had to have 11 dog teeth pulled. It was not a fun time to say the least. Did you ever try to grab a sock toy without any front dog teeth? Not easy. Then, most recently my sister Gigi had to go through something similar.

Ok, I had to put one picture of Gigi here too.

It all started early one morning. Gigi was all excited and I couldn’t figure out why. Mom said something about “want to go for a car ride?” Well I was all in… imagine my disappointment when she goes out the garage door with Gigi and not me. Mom even actually pushed me back. Man was I ticked off at Mom. How dare her leave with Gigi and leave me at home….seriously! It seemed like a 1000 hours later she comes back in the house and I was so happy to see her and Gigi. I go up to Gigi to say hi and ask here where they’ve been and I start to sniff her and I’m like…..uh ha, I know that smell…. She was at that awful place…. The Veterinarian Office!!

Ok, Gigi said she loves her vet but she hates going there. He seems to always do something that causes her to not feel good. I had to explain to her that sometimes we have to do things that don’t feel so good but will make us better in the long run. I kinda figured that she was going to have to go through something like that. The last couple of weeks her breath was really bad. In fact, when Josh was here, Gigi would sit next to him and he would put his hands over his mouth and say, “Her breath makes me gag.” She said when the Vet went to clean her dog teeth, 6 of them just fell out. He had to pull 2 other dog teeth out. So now she doesn’t have her four top front teeth either. We are like twins now I guess.

So what is the message I have in all of this? Make sure you take good care of your dog’s teeth. It is more than just the fact that they could lose their dog teeth… if their dog teeth aren’t taken care of, infection can get into their bloodstream and to their heart and they could die. So, it is not just about making sure that they have pearly white smiles, but it is about their overall health. Mom felt really awful about Gigi. She did brush her dog teeth, but not probably the amount she should have. Dr. Dave did say that little dogs tend to lose their teeth even if they are brushed every day. Remember we are at your mercy to make sure we are taken care of. Don’t take that responsibility lightly. We want to stick around for as long as possible. Your dog might only be here for a part of your life but for your dog, you are his/her whole life!

Until next week….Keep it Real!!
