Best Glucosamine for Dogs: A Review of Revita Soft Chews

| Published by |

Before getting into the details of the Hip and Joint Revita Chews, let me share a quick story.

vizsla playing with dog toys and stick

Odi playing with his toy and fetching a LARGE stick!

When our Vizsla was a young pup, about 2 years old, he stepped into a groundhog hole during one of our field days. He began limping and instantly I was extremely worried.

After a checkup, I was assured that there were no broken bones, but that the ligaments, cartilage, and the joint were most likely strained. My vet recommended fish oil for dogs to help reduce inflammation, as well as a joint supplement with glucosamine for dogs to help heal and repair the joint area.

I could handle that, but then the vet said we should limit runs and a lot of physical activity until the leg had time to heal. What!?!? If you are familiar with Vizslas, or any very active dog for that matter, you know that this is basically an impossible task.

The vet must have seen my expression as he started to chuckle. He said to just do my best, suggested to keep Odi on a leash when outdoors to minimize running, and to find toys to keep him busy indoors. I followed the vet’s advice and before long Odi was back to his normal self.

Uses of Joint Supplements for Dogs

hip and joint supplement for dogs - Revita soft chewsThis situation did make me realize that joint health supplements were not just for senior dogs. In fact, vets often recommend supplements for joints following injuries and post-surgeries, as well as a preventatigve in very active dogs and breeds that are known to develop joint issues as they age.

The joint and fish oil supplements helped heal Odi from his injury and he has not had any issues with his leg since, which now is going on 2.5 years.

Currently, the most common use of joint supplements is for dogs that suffer from osteoarthritis, pain from arthritis, and hip dysplasia.

Osteoarthritis (aka arthritis or degenerative joint disease) is the most common health problem in older dogs. If you own a dog, the chances are pretty high that you may have to deal with it some day. There are many causes of arthritis, but the most common is simply wear and tear on a dog’s joints, just as what happens in us humans as we age.

Best Glucosamine for Dogs

There are very many great dog supplements on the market, many of which are quite popular, including Dasuquin, Glyco-Flex III, and Cosequin. However, vets still recommend that a dog take these with fish oil supplements to gain the maximum benefits.

That is why it is so exciting to review the Hip & Joint Revita Chews by K9 Nature Supplements. As the old saying goes, this supplement kills two birds with one stone – combining the benefits of fish oil with the key active ingredients of the best joint supplement for dogs.

Here’s a quick comparison chart for several of the top supplements. Read on to learn about the various ingredients. Note that the amounts are listed per serving for large dogs.

Conclusion of Revita Chews

Odi and I are big fans of hiking, exercise, running, and all types of outdoor activities. We live to be active and healthy!

Odi is still young at 4.5 yrs old, so he is not suffering from arthritis or any other chronic joint-related issues. However, I have seen and testify to how a combination of fish oil and a joint supplement works in injury-related issues. I can only imagine how it must feel for a senior dog to be relieved of arthritis pain/stiffness and to be able to be more mobile again.

Odi’s health is priceless – he is an integral part of our family and we absolutely love him! If I can help him prevent hip and joint issues, stay healthy, and live a full active life by giving him this daily supplement, it is worth every penny.

  • The Revita Chews work great! Highly recommend them

  • Ashley Duke says:

How do you figure out what amount is best for your dog? How much glucosamine and chondroitin do dogs need?

    • Kristy says:

Great question! Dogs actually do not need a very large amount of glucosamine or chondroitin to see the positive benefits. Supplements (or medicines) work by activating certain signaling mechanisms in the body that make the supplement work. The dosage of the Hip & Joint Revita Chews are based on scientific data as to the amount needed to fully activate these mechanisms in the dog’s body. Providing a higher dose of either glucosamine or chondroitin does not activate the mechanisms any further, as there is a maximum threshold. Hope this explains it clearly. Please feel free to ask us any other questions.

  • Mary says:

Looks like these are actually 375 mgs of glucosamine, 200mgs of chondroitin & 200 mgs of MSM. Not quite the same as stated above.

    • Kristy says:

Yes, you are correct. Each Revita Chew contains 375 mg of glucosamine, 200 mg chondroitin, 200 mg MSM, 150 mg Omega 3 Fatty Acids, 2.5 mg Manganese. The chart compares the amounts per serving for large dogs, which is 2 soft chews.
